What Romania Can Offer
Transylvania is the place in Romania frequented by almost every tourist that travels to the country. It is the home of Bran Castle which is near Brasov, a medieval town. The castle is Bram Stoker’s inspiration for his fictitious vampire, Prince Vlad the Impaler. The castle is situated atop a cliff, giving off a formidable and commanding presence. The castle and its nearby village museum allow tourists to buy vampire statues, paintings of Vlad, sweaters and wine.
Said to be another castle of Vlad is Poenari in central Romania. The ruins are imposing in their perched high on the cliff above Arges River. Legend has it that this river is where Vlad’s first wife jumped rather than become a captive of Turks.
The beautiful old town of Brasov is where you can find the Piata Sfatului of House of the Council which play host to the international music festival, The Gold Stag. Liken to Paris, Bucharest is the location of the People’s House or Palace of the Parliament, the world’s second largest building which was built by Ceausescu. The building is home to the National Museum of Contemporary Art and the Romanian Parliament.
Not to be missed is the Arcul de Triumf or Triumphal Arch which was constructed in 1935. The structured is built to the likeness of Paris’ Arc de Triomphe. Unveiled in 2005, the Memorial of Rebirth commemorates the many victims of the 1989 Romanian Revolution. Bucharest is also where you can find plenty of attractions and bars, electrifying nightlife and stylish restaurants.
The Black Sea beaches are for travelers who want sun and surf. Thermal and mineral springs abound in Romania, including Neptun, Covasna, Eforie Nord and Mangalia. In the northern side of the country are several famous painted monasteries—Sucevita, Humor, Moldovita and Voronet.
