Pakistan’s Internal Beauty

War and violence have always put Pakistan on the headlines. But the occasional political tensions are not enough to deter many travelers who flocked to the country annually to explore its internal beauty.

The evident and ancient pleasures provided by Pakistan to its visitors are rooted on its cultural traditions and Buddhist and Hindu religions. Pakistanis are known for their hospitality. However, it would be to your advantage if you take time to study the country’s basic laws before boarding a plane to Pakistan. For example, the country is enforcing dress codes which encourage wearing of loose and long clothing. Visitors who want to enter a temple or mosque should be completely covered.

An Inside Look at Pakistan

A quirky road links Pakistan to China. Called Khunjerab Pass, the road stretches across the land where you can find wolves, snow leopards, golden marmots and Himalayan ibex. Along the way you could see old Chinese hostels, a river where weary travelers could pass the night camping and crumbling rock walls.

If you are into spiritual enrichment, head off to the Takht-i-Bahi, an ancient Buddhist monastery which was constructed in the 1st century. You will be amazed and impressed by the antiquity and preservation. Near the monastic complex are the Sahr I Bahlol ruins. Situated on a 500-foot high hill, the ruins are the ideal place to contemplate and meditate and reflect.

Seasons and Transportation

The months of May to October are great for surfing and sailing in Pakistan. The hot conditions in the country turn the Arabian Sea into a perfect playground. November to February are cooler months in Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan and the southern portion of the North-West Frontier Province. Trekking around the country should best be done from April to October.

Domestic flights connect cities of Multan, Lahore, Karachi, Faisalabad, Sukkur and Quetta. Train services are widespread and affordable. Other travel options are buses, motorcycle-auto rickshaws and taxis.
