Mauritius: A Paradise for Nature Lovers
In the eastern side of Madagascar and almost 1,250 miles from the African coast is the volcanic island beauty of Mauritius. Traveling to this African country will give you a glimpse and taste of the French and British cultures. But many of the workforces in the island are of Indian descent.
When in Mauritius, do not hesitate to introduce yourself and talk to the locals as they are one of the friendliest people in the world, always eager to welcome tourists in their country.
Why Travel to Mauritius
Aside from the friendliness of its people, Mauritius is famous for its natural attractions. Going around the country, you would find many evidences of the influence of both British and French. The country is bordered by mountain ranges—the Moka Range, Grand Port Range and Black River Range.
Hiking in the mountains is one of the most popular outdoor activities among tourists in Mauritius. While up in the mountains, you can have an unprecedented view of the rarest wildlife and birds in Africa. After having your fill of the mountains and the wildlife, head off to lounge around the blue lagoons.
Find time to immerse yourself in the country’s culture. Taste the local food and dine at the terrace in one of the area’s French cafes. Afterwards, sip wine while listening to the music that drifts pleasantly from the streets.
The Seasons in Mauritius
The country has two seasons but there is not much of a difference between the two. November to April are the summer months. During this season, temperature ranges between 90 degrees to 95 degrees Fahrenheit. December is the time when you could experience a rise in humidity. The island encompasses a diameter of 25 miles. And because it is just a small island, coastal breeze is always a constant. Cyclones can be a common occurrence in the island, sometimes happening three or four times a year.
Winter time in Mauritius means a slight drop in temperatures but not enough to stay inside. You will be surprised to see that the country continues to bask under the heat of the sun, resulting to sea temperatures of between 75 degrees to 80 degrees Fahrenheit.
Peak travel season to the country is from May to November due to lack of humidity and the prevailing warm temperatures. During this season, divers and snorkelers flock to the country to take advantage of the calm and cool waters and excellent underwater conditions.
Even during off-peak season, Mauritius is still perfect to travel to. Cyclones in the country are rare and infrequent so almost every day in the island is like vacationing in the paradise.
Inside traveling
A convenient and easy way to see the island’s nooks and crannies is by hiring a taxi which you can share with other travelers. Just make sure that you have negotiated your fare with the taxi driver before starting your trip. If you want a cheaper way to travel across the island, take a bus.
