Why Travel to Malawi

Malawi is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts. You will find hiking through the national parks, wildlife reserves and mountains an experience beyond compare. The most famous feature of Malawi is the 360-mile long Lake Malawi which is 1,500 feet above the sea level. The lake is surrounded by pristine, white and fine-sand beaches and mountains. The lake, also called Lake Nyasa, covers three countries but a large expanse is under the Malawian territory. It was discovered in 1859 by David Livingstone, an English explorer. It is home to various fish species and a major source of food to Malawians.

National parks and game reserves dot the country’s landscapes, making it a paradise for sporting enthusiasts. If you want to have a glimpse of leopards, head off to the Nyika Plateau then proceed to the southern side of the country at Liwonde National Park and get acquainted with antelopes, elephants and zebras.

Malawi is also a favorite by celebrities for their humanitarian missions. Madonna and her humanitarian aid effort and adoption of a Malawian child have been in the news just recently. Lilongwe, the capital city, is famous for its cafes and open-air markets. The city exudes of an old town charm that tourists could not seem to get enough of. When in Lilongwe, take time to visit the Lilongwe Nature Sanctuary and experience its wildlife excursion.

Climate

Malawi is blessed to have a constant temperature all year round. June and July are the coolest months in the country, giving tourists in the highlands chilly nights. Rainy seasons are November to April which is the time to find cheap fares and hotel accommodations in the country. Dry season follows from May to October.

Tourists start flocking to Malawi as soon as the sun dries the rain and drenches the landscape. The dry season ends with the Lake of Stars Festival, beckoning hundreds of international musical talents to the country to raise funds for the disadvantaged Malawian children and to promote ecological tourism.
