The political climate in Honduras is far from perfect. But despite the political instability, the country's tourism industry is experiencing a growth enough to boost the economy. This is because the country is blessed to have so many attractions that tourists find worthy enough experience and see.

The growth of the tourism industry can be seen with expansions of luxury hotels and a growing number of cruise ships. The country is just teeming with evidence of its economic growth.

The Sights and Sounds of Honduras

There are so many beautiful places to visit in Honduras. One of them is the Bay Islands where you can sprawl and enjoy the sun. This archipelago is a natural treasure that attracts many sun-worshipping travelers. Head out to Roatan for your choice of both luxury and budget hotels, beautiful mangroves and authentic diving shops.

For backpackers or travelers on a tight budget, Utila is the place to be. Budget-friendly hotels, cheap restaurants and bars littered the streets to every tourist's delight.

If you want a bit of serenity to commune with nature, go to Guanaja, an island that is not usually included in the itinerary of tourists visiting Honduras. Here, you get to see the amazing Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, the world's second biggest coral reef. You will be thrilled to see multicolored fish, sea turtles, sponges and coral lurking beneath the turquoise waters of the island.

Get your fix of the best coffee in the island at Marcala. The place is famous for producing organic coffee and tours of processing plants and plantation. After taking your fill of the caffeine, get ready to start your trek up the mountain for a gorgeous and captivating view of the island.

Meanwhile, you can find the biggest rainforest in the Central American region at La Moskitia. The area is home to some endangered species and indigenous ethnic groups. Have an invigorating visit to Tegucigalpa, a city with a colonial center that has become a residential and historical haven. The city's downtown area is lined with museums and restaurants.

Seasons for Travel

If you want to have outdoor fun under the clear blue skies and the feel of warm sun on your skin, then make travel plans to Honduras during the dry months, from February to March. This period is ideal for snorkeling, swimming and scuba diving.

Honduras has two rainy seasons. More showers are experienced between May and November while rain is felt heavily in the north coast between September and January. Expect hurricanes between months of August and November.

Getting Around Honduras

Travel options around Honduras include buses which are quite cheap. However, the service is unreliable so if you are on a tight schedule, try to avoid taking this mode of transportation. Car rentals can be expensive but it allows you more freedom to roam around the country.
