An Inside Look

Guatemala is an agricultural country, producing coffee, bananas and sugar cane. Its crafts, textiles and architecture show the centuries of Mayan influence. To feel the combination of modernization and antiquity in the country, start your exploration in the preserved colonial town of Antigua Guatemala which is a UNESCO World Heritage designated site. Take a stroll along the streets of the town and admire the Spanish Baroque buildings.

Relax at the Parque Central and mingle with locals and other tourists at the central fountain. For a modern experience, head off to the capital city of Guatemala. The town covers the ruins of Kaminaljuyu, the city of ancient Mayas. You would not get lost while in the town because it is divided by zones, with zone ten being the most modern part of the city. There you could see various bars and restaurants.

Go on a food trip and savor the local delicacies which are similar to Mexican foods. You can buy paella, meat, tortillas and tacos. Foods sold on street stalls are mouthwatering and tempting. However, make sure that the foods are cooked thoroughly before you buy it.

One of the biggest exports of Guatemala is coffee. Take time to go on tour of some of the big coffee plantations, including Los Torrales.
