Ecuador: A Country Worth Visiting

Ecuador is the country in South America preferred by many adventurous travelers. This is because the country is blessed with a lush jungle and diverse tropical rainforests.

The country has numerous active volcanoes and traveling across the country is generally safe. There are two major airports servicing the country, located in the cities of Guayaquil and Quito.

Why Visit Ecuador

Many travelers go straight to the city of Quito which is one, if not the oldest, in both South and North America. The city is home of colorful open markets situated at the topmost part of a volcano. Quito is UNESCO World Heritage-designated site and should be visited any tourist. Explore the city's Plaza de la Independencia, the Presidential Palace and the cathedral. Or stroll along the Avenida Amazonas, do some shopping and have a cup on one of the cafes scattered in the area.

Never miss a visit to the Galapagos Islands and its unique wildlife, such as the large black iguana and giant Galapagos tortoises. Pay a visit also to the Charles Darwin Research Center located in Puerto Ayora. The research center was constructed to conserve the island's natural habitat.

The gentle waves surrounding the island allows you to snorkel or swim with turtles, sea lions and penguins. You will be amazed on how friendly the creatures are to divers, especially the sea lions, together with their pups.

Another Ecuadorian city worth a visit is Guayaquil which is the most populated of all the cities in the country. Extensive renovation had been done on the town and with its natural beauty, scenic landscape and fantastic views, Guayaquil is starting to become known as a must-go tourist destination.

Give in to your carnal desires and taste that mouthwatering local dishes. Every region has its own specialty, including corn pancakes, lechon or roasted suckling pig, lemon-marinated shrimp or the popular Ecuadorian dish of humble guinea pig.

When to Travel to Ecuador

The geography of Ecuador gives the country a variation of climates. The mountain climate is dependent on the altitude while humidity is great during rainy season in the coast from December to May. Meanwhile, hot and humid weather is experienced at the Amazon while a dry weather prevails at the Galapagos Islands. Tourists flock to mainland Ecuador between June to September, then December to January. Rainy season is still a good time to travel in most parts of the country because the conditions are still conducive for outdoor activities and sightseeing.

Quito is an ideal destination any day of the year. However, you must prepare for a possible rise in temperatures during the dry months of June to September due to the city's altitude. The Galapagos Islands are also ideal to visit any day of the year. But the official peak travel period is between June to August, then December to January.

All American citizens planning to stay in Ecuador for only 3 months are not required to get a visa.
