The Culturally Rich Country of Cyprus

The Mediterranean is blessed to have the country of Cyprus within its midst. The third biggest island in the region, Cyprus’ attraction is in its rich culture. Thousands of travelers visit Cyprus each year to get a glimpse of the country’s archaeological sites, medieval castles and ancient monuments. Or bask under the heat of the sun on its white-sand beaches.

The Greek influence is very dominant in the country. This is understandable as the country is where the Greek goddess of beauty and love, Aphrodite was born. Everywhere you go you could see Greek temples and artworks showcasing the Greek culture.

What To See and Do In Cyprus

Travelers to Cyprus can take their fill of cinemas, theaters, clubs and bars, enough to keep them awake all night long. All night parties and discos are common sights in Ayia Napa. So come prepared with your dancing shoes when planning a trip to Cyprus.

The major international airport and the largest port in the country are situated in Larnaca. This bustling town is also a resort area kept busy by hordes of travelers. From Larnaca, you can go to Paphos which was the capital of Cyprus during the Roman times. This area is famous for its artifacts, mosaics. Stunning beaches, catacombs, Baths of Aphrodite and hillside villages. Make sure that you have in your itinerary a visit to the gorgeous beach of Coral Bay.

The divided capital of Lefkosia is where you can find beautiful and exquisite natural art such as the Adia Marina and the man-made historical art of the Kykkos Monastery which is resplendent in its mosaics. And for a truly memorable artistic experience, visit the Cyprus Museum and the Byzantine Art Museum.

Because Greek culture is dominant in Cyprus, it is to be expected that rosemary and olive oil dominate the local cuisine. But aside from Greek cuisine, the country is also known for its collision of different cultural cuisine, including but not limited to Chinese, Mexican, Indian, Japanese, Lebanese and Italian. Do not hesitate to sample each delicacy during one of your flights to Cyprus.

Cyprus Climate and Transportation

This mecca in the Mediterranean is blessed to have a year-round sunshine and warm sea breeze. Mild winters and hot summers make Cyprus a perfect vacation destination. Staying outdoors can best be done during the months of July and August which are the driest and hottest. Wet and cool months are December and January.

Driving from Larnaca to other cities such as Limassol, Paphos and Nicosia would take only about two hours. You would not find it difficult going around the island because the English language is widely spoken in this captivating island. But it would be to your advantage if you brush up on your Greek while on the way to Cyprus.
