Costa Rica: The Undiscovered Land

It used to be that Costa Rica was frequented only by biologists and backpackers. Today, this paradise country is hidden no more, emerging from its cocoon to become one of the top tourist destinations in the Latin America.

Millions of tourists flock to the country every year, making tourism the primary industry in the country. However, despite the thriving tourism in Costa Rica, a great portion of the country still remains unexplored.

Tourists Attractions and Activities at Costa Rica

If you want a memorable vacation, Costa Rica should be on the top of your travel list. The country has one of the best ecosystems in the world. You can see monkeys swinging from one tree to another and toucans perching on top of the trees unmindful of people gawking at them. Get awed of the mountainous volcanoes and stroll along mile-long beaches.

Take a tour around the tropical gardens at the Butterfly Farm and watch the metamorphosis of butterflies from caterpillars. Get a view of hundreds of mammals and birds and thousands of plant species at the Monteverde Biological Cloud Forest Reserve which is situated in a 25,688-acre forest.

After communing with nature, head off to Santa Elena, a charming town known for its mouthwatering cheese. Make sure to visit also the Manuel Antonio National Park and explore the rain forest which is home to sloths, spider monkey and numerous bird species.

You can end your tour with a swim in a nearby white-sand beach or by pampering yourself in a spa or soaking in a mineral bath that is volcanically heated at the Tabacon Hot Springs and Resort at the La Fortuna/Arenal Volcano.

Peak and Off Seasons

Dry season is a good time to travel to Costa Rica. Dry months start late November till the end of April. Near-perfect weather could be experienced during these months, allowing you to while away the day lying on a white beach or exploring the rainforest. However, this is also the time when hotel rates and flights tickets are at their highest.

You can get cheap flights and hotel accommodations during the rainy season which is from May up to November. Temperatures around this time are generally mild, except in the mountains. Just be informed that September and October are the rainiest months and there is a great possibility that you may spend most of your time inside your hotel.

Transportation

Costa Rica's public transportation system is well developed. The cheapest way to travel around the country is by bus. However, the experience could sometimes be uncomfortable and chaotic. For long journeys, you can opt to hire a taxi. You can also rent a car or rent a motorcycle.

Getting around the country can be done easily and quickly by boarding planes either by NatureAir or Sansa. All U.S. citizens must have a valid passport upon entering Costa Rica. A visa is not required for stays of not more than 3 months.
