Barbados: An Island Paradise Worth Visiting
Barbados, an island paradise in the Caribbean, is still showing some signs of its English roots. In the early 1600s, some British sailors set foot on Barbados. While other islands in the Caribbean area were occupied by Spaniards, French and Danes, the British settlers decided to call Barbados their home.
Today, tourists who book a flight to Barbados may still feel the British influence on the island and its people. Barbados is known for its amazing underwater caves, creating an undersea environment that is a dream of every photographer, snorkeler and diver.
How to Enjoy Barbados
There are myriad of water sports activities that you can do on the island. You can go scuba diving on its more than 25 dive sites on the western coast of the island. Amateur divers may head off to the Spawnee site while experienced divers may find pleasure at the Light House. You could go swimming with Manta Ray, Moral Eels and Nurse Sharks and view the coral reefs or historic sunken ships in Bermuda's deep water.
For the not so adventurous tourists, there are many things to do on the land, including strolling and sight-seeing. Get amazed with the island's splendid architecture from Victorian homes to wooden chattel houses to artistic hotels. You could add the 16th century Italian sculptures in your eclectic experience of the Barbados.
Experience also the creative side of the island by viewing the wide array of beautiful and colorful potteries with each reflecting the beauty of the place. They would be great as souvenirs or giveaways.
At night, you can unwind in the island's various clubs and bars which line the streets of Bay and St Lawrence, creating a mixture of live reggae and calypso music.
Weather and Flights
Generally, the weather in Barbados is sunny, with temperature ranging between 75 to 85 degrees. A slight cool temperature could be experienced at night. This near perfect weather is one of the reasons why tourists frequent the area.
However, you must book your flights to Barbados in advance especially if you plan to travel during the peak seasons. If budget is not a problem, the best time to travel is from January to June when the sun is at its full glory. There are occasional rainfall but the temperatures are generally high.
If you are traveling on a budget, it would be best to avail of cheap flights tickets during off season. Usually, hurricanes that frequent other areas in the Caribbean are rarely seen in Barbados. However, there may be some slight turbulence that divers and snorkelers should be aware of.
The island could be enjoyed riding a bike or moped. Or you could opt to go around by bus which has cheap fares. Taxis with low rates are abundant in the island. Car rentals are also available upon arriving at the Grantley Adams International. Post-flight travel is never a problem in the island as hotels provide a shuttle bus for their guests.
