Diving for Pearls in the Island Paradise of Bahrain

Thirty three islands made up this Asian archipelago called Bahrain. The country is also one of Asia’s wealthiest. The country puts travelers who visited it under its spell, with many of them wanting to come back to the island paradise.

The Islamic culture and tradition is very much alive in Bahrain. However, travelers find the reclusion and respite in Bahrain more enjoyable compared with other Islamic countries. The oil industry is the major source of income in Bahrain. The country has its own period of turbulence and conflict but it is now moving forward towards stability and peace.

What Bahrain Can Offer

The islands in Bahrain are famous for their thriving ports, beaches and oil trade. Get a glimpse of the country’s Muslim heritage by visiting the Al-Faith Mosque situated in the capital city of Manama. Have a dose of the Islamic religion while admiring the gorgeous architecture. Situated in the city center, the mosque is furnished by artisans. Keep in mind not to wear shorts if you want to go inside the mosque. Women visitors are given black cloaks and headscarves to wear when they go inside the prayer hall which has the capacity to hold almost 7,000 worshippers.

Be awed with the country’s collection of 21-carat gold and fine pearls. Haggle with vendors at the Manama souk which is situated right in the city’s center. If you want more of the country’s pearls, head off to the Museum of Pearl Diving where you could see pearl seafaring and diving antiquities. Never to be missed is the huge collection of photographs of Arab dignitaries wearing their finest.

If you have enough of the country’s elegance, wealth and splendor, drive out to the desert to visit the Tree of Life. This mesquite tree has miraculously survived the arid desert condition for more than 400 years. Legend has it that the tree came from the Garden of Eden.

When to Travel to Bahrain

Summers in Bahrain can be unbearably hot. However, this is also the time when many travelers flocked to the country. Early January is the busiest month because of the Islamic New Year and the New Year’s Eve. Rain showers could be experienced from November to March, discouraging some to visit the country. If you want the cheapest fare and hotels, go to Bahrain during the month-long Ramadan holiday. However, solemnity could be felt across the country during this time so this may not be the perfect time to see and experience what the country has to offer.

Traveling Inside Bahrain

Traveling inside Bahrain is quite easy and convenient by car, taxi or bus. When traveling by taxis, make sure that you have negotiated the fare with the taxi driver before your journey starts. The bus system is quite efficient and it plies all routes that link towns and villages to major cities.
