Experience a Typical Island Living in the Bahamas

Just the thought of flying to the Bahamas could bring a smile to every tourist's face. And every visitor gets a pleasant surprise the first time they saw the Bahamas and realize that it lives up to their expectation of what an island paradise should look like.

The Bahamas is a chain-like group of almost 700 islands surrounded by clear blue waters that rival the bright blue skies above. The fine, white sand glittering under the sun is a common sight in this group of islands, with just 30 of them inhabited. The area is also dotted with thousands of cays that span almost the entire stretch of the Atlantic Ocean all the way near Palm Beach, Florida.

When and How to Travel

There are available direct air flights to the islands from several major airports, including New York, Miami, Florida, Boston, Massachusetts and Memphis, Tennessee. These airports also serve as transfer stations for Bahamas airline flights from smaller or remote cities. Natural underwater caves and various water sports such as snorkeling and diving are some reasons why you should book cheap air flight to the islands.

The weather condition in the Bahamas is fairly good throughout the year, which makes the region a perfect getaway. The constant trade winds make sure that the average temperature in the islands remains relatively mild. If your travel timetable is flexible, there is no problem getting cheap flights to Bahamas.

Cheap air flights can be had during the rainy months of May to November, which are also the peak months for hurricanes. Marked up air fares, accommodations and car rentals are the trend during the peak months of December to April. Generally, the sun is scorching during summer in the southern portion of the Bahamas while cooler weather prevails in the western and northern islands.

What to Expect

As an island paradise, you can almost do anything in the Bahamas, from parasailing to sunbathing to gaming. As such, vacationing in the islands can be quiet expensive during peak season. Really cheap flights are available during the hurricane season but there is the risk that you could end up staying inside your room for most of the time that you stayed in the islands. It is best to book air flights to the islands during the off-season months of May to October. These are rainy months but the rainfall is not enough to force you to stay inside your room.

Chartered airplanes make it easy and fast to hop from one island to another. However, the pick-up and drop off point for the whole islands is Nassau so there is a great possibility that you would spend more time at the capital city during island-hopping.

Ferries are another way to travel between islands, which have routes originating at the capital city. Nassau is never short of tourist attractions, including the Pirates of Nassau Museum and the beguiling Paradise Island.

All U.S. citizens are required to have only passports, return tickets and sufficient funds when entering the islands of the Bahamas.
