Tourist Attractions
The bustling and lively capital city of St. John has always been one of the top tourist destinations in the world. Visitors to Antigua who are seeking for excitement and good time flock to the city. There are just so many things to do in St. John that tourists wish they have more time to experience all the exciting things that the city could offer to them.
While Antigua's beaches are its main attractions, tourists booking a flight to the island would discover the thrill of shopping in stores that line up the streets of the city's capital and dining at restaurants along the beach.
And for tourists who want variety, there is the island's Museum of Antigua and Barbuda. History buffs would find it interesting that the museum is housed in the circa 1750 Colonial Court House. The museum displays artifacts from early Arawak settlers who made the island their home from 35 to 1100 AD. And of course, several colonial period objects are also on display at the museum.
Tourists who are lucky to stay on during weekends find it exhilarating going around the farmer's market where one could browse and shop for crafts and jewelry made by locals and savor the local delicacies.
Climate
The island is blessed with a good climate throughout the year. During winter, between December to March, the average temperature goes down a few degrees from the average high of 86 Fahrenheit. Daily showers usually occur during rainy months of September to November while hurricanes can be expected between June to September. The rest of the year is fairly dry in the island.
Getting In and Out
Visitors arriving by plane should take taxis from the airport to the city's capital as there is no available public transportation. Fixed-rate taxis are parked outside the airport and could take visitors to the city in about 15 minutes.
Visitors could also opt to hire automobiles from the airport to St. John's. Many major automobile-for-hire companies such as Thrifty, Dollar and Avis are offering their services at the airport. Also available is long-term and short-term parking near the airport building.
All visitors to Antigua and Barbuda are required to have confirmed return tickets and show enough money to cover their expenses during their intended time of stay in the island. For U.S. citizens, they need to have passports when entering Antigua and Barbadu by air, land or sea. No visa is required if U.S. visitors plan to stay only for one month.
