Andorra: Europe's Little Secret

For ski enthusiasts, the breathtaking country of Andorra will come as a surprise. Located between Spain and France, it is comprised of about 181 sq miles of forests, mountains and lakes. Although not as popular as the other ski getaways, Andorra has always been considered to be one of Europe's secret. There is definitely so much to do and see in this picturesque country.

Andorra's Attractions

One of the many reasons why this country attracts huge crowds, particularly during the winter months is its climate. The cold autumn guarantees a lot of snow which skiers will surely get excited about. Average temperature in Andorra can range from 28 degrees to 75 degrees (Fahrenheit).

The perfect time to travel to Andorra is from mid-December to April. This period is when snow is quite plentiful and ski resorts are offering their best services. If you want to take advantage of the mild summer, you can go here during the hiking season which starts after the snow melts.

Of course, there are also the other popular tourist attractions: National Automobile Museum – although there are plenty of museums in the country, this particular museum showcases hundreds of bikes, motorcycles and four-wheeled marvels from the period of 1898 to 1950. These antique automobiles are considered to be “art” and travelers should not miss the opportunity to gaze at such wondrous creations; Andorra la Vella – as the country's capital, this town is a must-see. Situated in Ruin Gran Valera Valley, it is filled with adorable shops, restaurants and historic sites. You will not be able to resist buying luxurious souvenirs to remind you of the quiet beauty of the country; Placa del Poble – also called People's Square, this is the perfect place for travelers to socialize and get to know the locals. In addition to this, it also offers a great view of the mountain and valley nearby.

Travelling to Andorra

Considering that it is a small country, travelers will have to arrive at the Toulouse Airport or Barcelona Airport. Visas are not required for American citizens although you might need one for Spain or France. To get to Andorra, you can choose to rent a car or lease a car and use any of the three major roads which connect the country to France and Spain. Another way is to travel by train to L'Hospitalet from Toulouse where bus pickups are available.
